33-Year-Old Woman Killed in Collision With Truck

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A 33-year-old woman was killed early Tuesday morning after her SUV collided with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 5 just south of Sacramento, authorities confirmed.

The California Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 6:15 a.m. on the northbound side of the busy interstate near the Elk Grove Boulevard exit. According to the initial investigation, the woman was driving an SUV when it veered into the path of a big rig hauling freight. The impact was severe, causing the SUV to become lodged against the truck’s front wheel area.

Emergency responders arrived within minutes. Despite life-saving efforts at the scene, the woman was pronounced dead by paramedics. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office later identified her but asked that her name not be released until family members are notified. State troopers have not yet released details about whether weather, speed or distraction played a role, and toxicology reports are pending.

The truck driver, a 45-year-old man from Oregon, sustained minor injuries and was treated at a nearby hospital. He remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.

Traffic on the northbound lanes of I-5 was backed up for miles as crews worked to clear debris and conduct a preliminary investigation. The highway was fully reopened by early afternoon.

Officials say that multi-vehicle collisions involving commercial trucks can escalate quickly, and urged drivers to keep safe distances, especially during heavy traffic or changing weather conditions.

Local residents expressed shock at the news, noting that the area sees heavy commuter traffic every weekday morning. “It’s such a sad reminder of how fragile life is,” one neighbor told reporters.

The CHP continues to investigate the crash and expects to release more information once completed.
