Father and daughter killed in plane crash carrying hurricane relief supplies to Jamaica

A father and daughter lost their lives Monday in a small plane crash in Coral Springs, Florida, while traveling to Jamaica on a humanitarian relief mission. Alexander Wurm, 53, and his daughter, Serena Wurm, 22, were delivering hurricane relief supplies when their aircraft went down shortly after takeoff from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport.

The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, which occurred in a residential waterway about five minutes after departure. No additional casualties were reported.

Ignite the Fire Ministry, the faith-based organization the Wurm family helped lead, paid tribute to the pair, describing Alexander as a man defined by “warmth and unwavering kindness.” The ministry noted that he devoted his life to serving communities around the world.

According to the ministry’s statement, Alexander’s years of travel and outreach left a deep impact on countless lives. His legacy, they said, was built on generosity, faith, and a steadfast commitment to helping others.

Serena, who shared her father’s passion for humanitarian work, was remembered as “a beacon of empathy and hope.” The organization described her as someone who inspired those around her through her compassion and dedication to service.

“Together, their final journey embodied selflessness and courage,” the ministry said, emphasizing the powerful example the pair set through their actions and their faith-driven mission.

Alexander and Serena are survived by wife and mother Candace Wurm, along with Alexander’s two other children, James, 17, and Christiana, 20. Family, friends, and community members have expressed profound grief at the loss.

For those who knew the Wurms, their deaths represent not only a tragic accident but the passing of two people whose lives were rooted in love, service, and devotion to helping others. Their impact continues to inspire the many lives they touched.
