You Won’t Believe How Much the Pope Actually Earns

When people think of the Pope, they often imagine immense wealth, luxury, and gold — after all, he lives in the Vatican, surrounded by priceless art and history. But the truth about the Pope’s salary might surprise you.

According to official Vatican sources, the Pope doesn’t earn a salary at all. That’s right — unlike presidents, CEOs, or world leaders, the Pope doesn’t receive a paycheck. His needs are covered by the Vatican itself — food, housing, clothing, and travel — but he doesn’t have a personal income.

Pope Francis himself has even refused luxury perks, preferring a modest apartment and a simple car instead of limousines. His message is clear: “The Pope is not a king; he is a servant.”

In contrast, priests and cardinals who serve in the Vatican do receive modest monthly stipends — usually between €1,000 and €5,000 depending on their rank — but the Pope stands apart as a man who leads without financial gain.

So while the Vatican’s treasures are worth billions, the man at its head earns €0 — a powerful reminder that leadership, for him, is about faith, not fortune.
