A retired Lieutenant General has ignited fresh controversy after calling out former President Donald Trump for what he described as a “violation of an unwritten military rule.”
The criticism came after Trump reportedly delivered a private address to a group of senior armed forces leaders — a move the general says crossed a long-standing boundary meant to keep political influence out of military affairs.
In his statement, the general didn’t mince words:
“There are rules, both written and unwritten, that protect the chain of command from political pressure. When a civilian leader steps over that line, it undermines the discipline and unity that our forces depend on.”
The rebuke quickly spread across social media, where reactions were divided. Supporters of the general praised him for “defending military integrity,” while Trump loyalists dismissed the remarks as “politically motivated.”
Though the “unwritten rule” isn’t part of formal military law, many officers consider it a sacred understanding — that the military must remain apolitical, no matter who’s in power.
One thing is clear: this public clash between a decorated general and a former Commander-in-Chief has once again blurred the line between politics and patriotism — and it’s sparking major debate across the country.
