In a surprise announcement at Belmont’s historic Bell Tower, Emmy-winning actress Patricia Heaton was named the Christian university’s

next chancellor, succeeding outgoing leader Bob Fisher. The Everybody Loves Raymond star, clad in academic regalia over her signature crisp blazer, brought her trademark wit to the podium: “After playing

a TV mom for decades, I figured it was time to boss around real students—just kidding! (Mostly.)” The role marks Heaton’s first major position in higher education, though she’s long been vocal about her faith and support for Christian arts programs.

Belmont’s board cited Heaton’s unique blend of Hollywood experience and outspoken Christian values as key to their decision.

“Patricia doesn’t just talk about integrating faith and creativity—she’s lived it,” said board chair Judy Corn, referencing Heaton’s production company that develops faith-based content. The actress
